Sweet Basil

Welcome to Sweet Basil, a dazzling Vietnamese restaurant tucked away in the heart of Fort McMurray, at 254 Gregoire Dr. This café is not just a dining establishment; it’s a vibrant homage to the flavors of Vietnam, where each dish tells a story as rich and inviting as the culture itself.

As I stepped into Sweet Basil, I was immediately struck by the tantalizing aroma wafting through the air. The reviews from satisfied patrons echo the sentiments of many—a desire to return, to savor the mouthwatering offerings time and time again. Let’s take a deeper dive into what makes this hidden gem a must-visit.

  • Vegetarian Delights: T Serroul raves about the Rice Noodles with Lemongrass and Crispy Tofu. Requested spicy, this dish emerged as a standout. The tofu, perfectly cooked, coupled with excellent flavors, captures the heart of vegetarian cuisine. Many agree this could easily be the best vegetarian dish in the area.
  • Soul-Warming Pho: It's hard to argue against Brad C's enthusiasm after a long stint in the wild. His first stop was Sweet Basil for their Pho, stating it was impressive for Fort McMurray standards. Ian Hudson shares similar sentiments, calling it the best pho in town—perfect for those chilly days or recovering from a night out.
  • Fusion Flavors: The menu extends beyond traditional Vietnamese fare. Shanta & Rajkumar recommend their Thai and Chinese offerings, highlighting dishes like curry chicken and mango salad with shrimp. The blend of flavors showcases the restaurant's diverse culinary expertise.
  • Generous Portions: Cory Klopak mentions the sizable servings, making any meal a great value. For lunch, his favorite is the chicken curry and seafood sizzler, perfect for sharing or enjoying solo. The extensive menu is sure to satisfy any craving.

While some diners note the decor could use a little TLC, as Joel Gervais aptly put it—“I’m here to eat, not stare at the walls!” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the essence of Sweet Basil. The focus is firmly set on the exceptional quality of their dishes.

To summarize, Sweet Basil stands as a culinary cornerstone in Fort McMurray. Whether you’re a local craving comfort food or a visitor eager to explore authentic Vietnamese flavors, this café promises a delightful dining experience. Don't miss the opportunity to indulge in their offerings—your taste buds will thank you!

I ordered delivery for the Rice Noodles with Lemongrass and Crispy Tofu, asked for it to be spicy. It was the best Vegetarian dish I had in a long time. Excellent flavours and the Tofu was cooked perfectly. I can't wait to order it again.

I Just spent 3 weeks in the bush. This was my first stop when I got out. I was craving Pho like a bear after hibernation. I was impressed, especially for Fort McMurray (no offense) and to top it off they have a few Filipino dishes so I copped some bangus to go. Again presently surprised. I will be back to try the Tapsilog !

Great food, great value. One of my favourite places in McMurray! Decor is a bit lacking and the place is dated, but hey, I'm here to eat not stare at the walls!

Excellent food!!! Cant say enough about the quality and favour. A true hiddem gem in Fort Mcmurray. These guys need to market more aggressively because the food is by far the highest quality asian/vietnamese food in Fort Mac & probably the best Ive experienced in Alberta.
